Email Blacklists and How to Avoid Them

By April 22, 2019 No Comments

Email marketing is a good way to get the click-throughs you are looking for, and they also allow you the chance to get creative and include a call to action; however, none of this will matter if you find yourself facing a poor deliverability rate.

What Is an Email Blacklist?

When someone talks about an email blacklist, they are referring to the list of IP addresses or domains that have restricted access into a network. If your emails get blacklisted, you will find a significant rise in your bounce rate. The emails will begin to filter directly into the spam folder rather than the inbox which greatly affects email deliverability.

How to Avoid Email Blacklists

To stop from getting blacklisted, there are a few things you can do to help ensure that you do not receive any spam complaints because of your email marketing efforts.

Adjust Your Email List

Take a good look at your email list. It is never advisable to send emails to people from a list you have purchased – this has spam written all over it. Only send emails to those who have already permitted you and have opted in.

Craft a Good Subject Line

Create relevant and eye-catching subject lines. The subject line of the email needs to grab the recipient’s attention and entice them to actually open and read the email. You can also make the emails more personalized.

Steer Clear of Mass Emails

Mass emails no longer work successfully in an email marketing campaign. To stand out and stay out of the spam folder, the emails should be sent based on the subscriber’s activity, and it should provide them with inherent value.

Include an Unsubscribe Link

Finally, to stay off the blacklist and out of spam folders, you need to make sure that the unsubscribe link is in every email that gets sent out. Not having this link will trigger spam filters. When someone does click that link, you also need to make sure that their name and other information are removed from your database and lists.

If you follow all these simple and straightforward tips, you can head into the future strong with a successful email marketing campaign.
