Although most of the guidelines of email marketing are in place for a reason, there are some standard rules that deserve to be broken. In today’s market, you have to make sure that you know the best ways to reach out to your audience. There are a lot of tips and tricks out there to choose from and it can be hard to determine which information is or isn’t going to be useful. For starters, here are three rules that you really have to break to get more from your email marketing:
-Get permission before sending emails. While this is technically the right way to do things, you’re going to fare much better if you give people the option to opt out rather than to opt in. If you let people sign up, you’re not going to get as many responses. If you send out an email and give people the chance to remove their name from the list, you’ll get a lot more attention and you will keep a lot more subscribers. Plus, you’re still in compliance with the CAN-SPAM Act.
-Don’t use pop-up ads to get subscribers. Technically, this rule is still true. There are new ads, known as “pop over” ads that can come up over a website, forcing people to view the ad and close out of it to access the website. You should capitalize on these. They’re totally customizable, allowing you to choose when they are displayed and what criteria are used to determine who sees which ads. It’s a really effective marketing tool and you should take advantage of it for your business.
-Require double opt-in confirmation. This is just a waste of time. Sure, it might provide the peace of mind that your customers really want to be getting emails, but it can also create a lot of hassle. They already said yes once. If they didn’t mean to, they’ll figure it out eventually. If you get customers on your email list to subscribe, you need to stop while you’re ahead. A single “yes” is good enough.
If you’re careful with your marketing practices, you can gain a lot from email marketing. While rules and guidelines exist for a reason, there are some that just need to be tested or broken completely because there are better marketing solutions behind them than people realise. Add these three tactics to your strategy and watch your marketing reach increase with ease.
