What was your first job out of school?
I was an Accountant at KPMG (via a cadetship)
Even though you’re remarkably successful, do you still find yourself seeking mentorship or business advice from others?
Not really when I first started the business, which made it quite difficult but in the last few years it’s been great cos I’m always seeking advice from my team and I also have an advisory board.
Who is your business hero?
Tony Hsieh (Zappos)
How we bounce back from our set-backs and failures is often thought as critical to success. What is your advice for new entrepreneurs starting out and facing tough set-backs, and do you have any particularly memorable experiences that have come from failures?
The whole Showpo business has been the result of my failed business. Everything I’m doing now is pretty much the opposite of my first business because it taught me what to do. Mistakes and failures are great when you can learn from them, because the earlier you make them, the earlier you learn, and that normally means you’re risking losing a lot less cos you will have a loss less at stake.
What business advice would you give to your younger self if you were to do it all over again?
I would have told myself to have more confidence and less self doubt.
